January 2019 Newsletter

HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome to 2019! Let's kick off the beginning of this year with a few announcements:

  1. Let's welcome back, Pete, to DSPT following his successful recovery from hip surgery just prior to the holidays. Good to have him in the clinic! Currently, he and Bridget are devising and in the process of filming a new Hospital for Special Surgery post hip surgery exercise protocol for athletes. Watch for the videos/tutorials on our Instagram as well on the HSS website.
  2. Recently, our acupuncturist Mila took a continuing education course on Motor Point Acupuncture. This style is an advanced form of painless medical acupuncture that targets weak and inhibited muscles and improves strength and function. If function is improved - pain is improved. Initially developed by MDs in Germany and Canada, this acupuncture treatment is best in combination with PT as it helps in situations where people are struggling to engage/"wake up" certain muscles. According to Mila, once this muscular inhibition is corrected, strengthening progresses more effectively.
  3. As physical therapists, we are encouraged in our profession to perform outreach and educational services for the community. Starting this month, pelvic floor specialist Iwalani will be hosting a series of educational pelvic health and wellness talks in her Astoria, Queens neighborhood at Perfect Posture Pilates. Every month, a different pelvic health topic will be covered, along with a Q&A and related exercise series.

We here at DSPT are here to professionally manage your journey toward caring for and healing your whole self, mind and body. Give us a call to see what we and our network of specialized health care providers can do for you!
