Persistent Pain Prevention Program

The Pain Program is an evidence based 5 week program that teaches individuals how to use proven tools to decrease pain and improve quality of life.

During this program individuals will:

  • Learn how pain works within your nervous system.
  • Learn different branches of the nervous system and how they correlate to stress and pain.
  • Learn how to utilize breathing techniques and progressive muscle relaxation exercises to reduce pain and stress.
  • Learn proven mindfulness exercises to address the emotional component to pain/ stress and reduce the emotional charge to one's pain.
  • Introduce the concept of graded exposure to activities that one may be avoiding due to prediction of pain.
  • Individualized meditation techniques specific to one's pain experience.
  • Use HRV biofeedback to see how these techniques can affect one's physiology.
  • Work with a Licensed Physical Therapist trained in these evidence based techniques.

This program is useful for:

  • People experiencing chronic pain.
  • Individuals experiencing pain from a new injury that persists longer than the normal tissue healing time (2-3 months).
  • Individuals experiencing a level of pain that is higher than expected based on their injury.
  • Pre or post operative pain management.
  • People with chronic health conditions who experience pain.

Following this 5 week program individuals will have a better understanding of their nervous system and how it relates to their pain experience. Patients will be proficient with self regulation and mindfulness tools with the ability to see how these exercises affect their physiologic response using HRV biofeedback.

This evidence based program can be a great adjunct to an existing physical therapy, massage, and exercise program.
